Have you ever wondered what was under you feet? Well its not just dirt and rock its a lot more complex than you think, on these pages you will lean about the crust, mantle, outer core, the inner core.
Crust
On the outer part of the earth it is called the crust. It is a very thin layer compared to the other layers. The crust is the layer that we are all standing on. It is about 65km deep, but under the ocean it is about 3-5 km deep because the ocean its so deep. The crust is mainly made of basalt and granite and rocks. You also may think that there is more land than water but you are wrong, the earth is 70% water so the crust is mainly very thin.
Mantle
The mantle is the biggest layer of the earth as it is 80% of the earth. It is 3000 km from the surface. There are two layers of the mantle the lisophere and the asthenosphere. The lithosphere is 1300 F and the asthenosphere is 7000 F. The mantle is made out of mostly copper and iron. Another thing that happens in the mantle is convection currents. Convection currents is when the lava sinks deeper in to the mantle and gets hotter and when it gets hotter it starts to rise and as it rises and gets colder and sinks back down making this a never stopping motion.
Outer Core
The outer core is the closest to the middle of the earth it is mainly iron and nickle. The outer core is 2000 km thick. The outer core is about 4400°c to 6100°c and the thickness of the outer core can be up to 1250 km deep.
Inner Core
The inner core is made out of solid iron and possably other elements unlike the mantile and the outer core. Even though the inner core is solid it is 4000-7000 C. Also the inner core is 1500 km thick.
